Gasherbrum II is the 13th highest mountain in the world. It is the third-highest peak of the Gasherbrum massif, and is located in the Karakoram, on the border between Gilgit–Baltistan, Pakistan and Xinjiang, China.
Kristin Harila has decided to stop her attempt to trek solo to the South Pole. The Norwegian Sámi mountaineer sustained a back injury early in the expedition and has been experiencing increasingly severe pain.
The primary reasons for accidents in the mountains are unpreparedness and the tendency for people to continue despite adverse conditions. Harila’s mission is to put an end to individuals risking their lives—and the lives of others—in the mountains.
